How to Use RankIt

What is RankIt?

RankIt lets you create ranked lists and tier lists for anything — movies, games, characters, music, food, or whatever you want to rank. Add your own entries, drag them into tiers or numbered positions, write explanations for your picks, and publish shareable lists for the world to see.

Create a Ranking

1. Choose Tier List (S/A/B/C/D/F tiers) or Rankings List (numbered positions).
2. Add entries by typing names in Quick Add, or import many at once with Bulk Add (CSV).
3. Drag entries from the pool into tiers or ranking positions.
4. Tap an entry to add an explanation for your pick.
5. Customize tier labels and colors to make it your own.

Guest Mode

You can start creating a ranking without signing in. Add entries, drag them into tiers, and explore the creator freely.

You can publish rankings without signing in. Sign in to save drafts, edit published rankings, and manage your lists.

Adding Entries

Build your entry pool with Quick Add (type a name and hit Add) or Bulk Add (paste or upload a CSV to add many entries at once). Each entry can have an optional image. Once entries are in your pool, drag them into tiers or ranking positions.

On desktop, you can resize the entry pool by dragging the divider on its left edge — widen it to see more entries per row, or narrow it to give your tiers more room. Your chosen width is remembered; double-click the divider to reset it.

On mobile, the entry pool sits below your ranking by default. Use the Pool: below / Pool: side button in the top-right of the pool to move it beside your ranking instead, so you can see entries and ranking positions at once. Your choice is remembered.

Drafts

Signed-in users can save drafts at any time. Come back later to continue editing, rearrange entries, or add more explanations before publishing.

Publishing

When you're ready, publish your ranking to get a shareable link. Published rankings can be viewed by anyone without signing in. You can unpublish, edit, and re-publish at any time.

Discovering Rankings

The home page shows a Recent Rankings section with the newest rankings published across RankIt. Click “View More Rankings” to open the full feed at /rankings, where you can keep loading older rankings. The feed is purely chronological — newest first, no algorithms. When you publish a ranking while signed in, it appears in the feed as long as it's public. Making a ranking private (from its published page) removes it from the feed while keeping the link working. Guest-published rankings stay reachable by their link but don't appear in the feed — sign in before publishing to have your ranking featured.

Your Public Username

Signed-in rankings are attributed to your public @username in the feed. You get one automatically, and you can change it anytime under /settings/profile (3–20 characters, letters, numbers, and underscores). Rankings published as a guest are shown as “Anonymous”. Your username is the only identity shown — your email is never exposed.

Account Settings

From Profile & Username (in the account menu, top-right) you can also update your email and password. Changing your email sends a confirmation link to the new address — the change takes effect once you click it, so keep using your current email until then. Changing your password asks for your current password first, for security.

Make Your Version

See a published ranking you like? Click “Make Your Version” to create your own ranking using the same entries. Whether you're signed in or a guest, you'll start fresh with no inherited placements — all source entries begin in your entry pool, ready for you to arrange and explain your own way.

Images

Images are optional but recommended. Upload an image for any entry to make your lists look polished. If an image is missing or fails to load, a clean placeholder is shown instead.

Customize Your Tiers

Don't settle for plain S/A/B/C/D/F. Double-click any tier label to rename it, add new tiers, reorder them, or remove ones you don't need. Pick a custom color for each tier using the color picker — make your list look exactly how you want it.

Explanations & Links

Tap any placed entry to add an explanation — tell people why you ranked it where you did. Drop a YouTube link, an article, or any URL and it'll auto-link so viewers can click through.

Sharing & Privacy

Hit Share to copy your ranking's link (or use native share on mobile). By default, published lists are public. Toggle a list to private if you want to keep it just for yourself — only you can see private rankings.

Export as Image

Download any published ranking as a shareable PNG image. Hit the “Download Image” button on any public ranking to get a clean, self-contained image with your tiers or ranks, entry images, names, and RankIt branding. Perfect for sharing on social media, Discord, or group chats. The image adapts to your content — wide for big tier lists, compact for short ranked lists. On iPhone or iPad, the image opens in a preview on the ranking page in any browser. Choose Save Image in the menu, or touch and hold the image to save it to your phone.

Edit & Re-Publish

Changed your mind? Edit a published ranking from My Published Lists, rearrange entries, update explanations, then re-publish. Your link stays the same — viewers always see your latest version.
